Police Take Student Protesters Marching to EC Office in Bengaluru into Custody; AISA Slams Crackdown Bengaluru Tensions escalated in #Bengaluru on Saturday after police took several members of Left student organisations into custody as they attempted to march toward the Election Commission office from #FreedomPark . The demonstration was jointly organised by student bodies, including the All India Students’ Association ( #AISA ), Students’ Federation of India ( #SFI ), All India Democratic Students’ Organisation ( #AIDSO ), and All India Students’ Federation ( #AISF ). The groups had gathered to protest against the Special Intensive Revision ( #SIR ) process and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner #GyaneshKumar . According to organisers, the march was blocked shortly after it began. Heavy security was deployed across the area, with police barricading access roads to prevent demonstrators from covering the few hundred metres separating them from the commission's premises. Protesters were taken into custody as they attempted to bypass the perimeter. In a press release issued on Saturday, AISA Karnataka strongly condemned the police response, terming the move to hold students in custody illegal and an infringement on constitutional freedoms. "Such actions raise serious concerns about the legality of taking these students into custody and the blatant suppression of the democratic right to protest," the release stated. AISA urged the #Congress -led #Karnataka government to intervene, demanding the immediate release of all students held in custody, the removal of road barricades, and unrestricted access to public spaces for peaceful gatherings. @AISA_karnataka @SfiKarnataka @AKarnataka79573 @aisa_official_ Video Source: https://x.com/path2shah/status/2108867720716374245
