DRI Sleuths Bust Kuala Lumpur-Bengaluru Smuggling Bid; 2 Held with ₹1.78 Cr Bengaluru Officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence ( #DRI ), #Bengaluru Zonal Unit, have foiled a unique smuggling bid at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), seizing 1,200.40 grams of foreign-origin gold valued at ₹1.78 crore. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI sleuths placed two passengers arriving on a flight from #KualaLumpur under discreet surveillance upon their arrival at the international terminal.Officials observed the suspects adhering packets beneath airport baggage trolleys before walking away. According to investigators, the duo adopted the covert method to bypass Customs clearance checkpoints without the contraband on their person. The plan involved letting unsuspecting passengers use the compromised trolleys to ferry their luggage past the Customs-controlled area, while the smugglers trailed them at a distance to retrieve the gold outside. DRI officers intercepted the suspects before they could recover the cache. A search of the tagged trolleys yielded two packets stuck to the underside, containing 12 biscuits of 24-karat (999.9 fineness) #gold weighing 1,200.40 grams. The contraband, concealment materials and the baggage trolleys involved were seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation into the smuggling network is underway. Video Source: https://x.com/path2shah/status/2108437119207178309
