WHAT AN ABSOLUTE REVELATION. 🇲🇽 Just returned from a trip to Mexico, and I have to say, I was completely blown away Respectfully, Mexico is classified as a developing country, much like India. And that makes what I experienced there all the more remarkable For starters, Mexico City is one of the most populous urban centres on the planet. 22 million overall. And yet, the city WORKS. Footpaths. Everywhere. Actual, usable pavements. What a revolutionary concept! 🙄 There’s plenty of traffic, but somehow it keeps moving. People follow traffic rules. Lanes seem to mean something. And most astonishingly, nobody seems to feel the need to lean on their horn to announce their continued existence The silence is almost unnerving for someone accustomed to Indian roads. And the cleanliness! Not just the capital or Guadalajara, but smaller towns like Arandas n Tequila. Beautifully maintained, remarkably clean and evidently cared for The country is unbelievably green. Lush, verdant landscapes everywhere we travelled. Quite spectacular. The museums are another revelation. Magnificent collections, beautifully curated, thoughtfully presented and an absolute joy to visit. There’s a sense of organisation and civic discipline that permeates practically everything And then there’s the tequila. Not merely the drink, but the extraordinary job Mexico has done protecting, promoting and building an entire global identity around a regional speciality. Mexico has protected tequila's designation of origin since 1974, and its agave landscape received UNESCO World Heritage recognition Government policy, geographical protection, private enterprise, tourism, heritage and commercial ambition all working together. They haven’t merely sold the world a spirit. They’ve sold it a piece of Mexican culture. That is nation branding at its finest.
