#Pune #Childhood #Memories #Pattice #Puff #Food #Heritage PATTICE (PUFF) In early 1960’s - on Sunday Mornings - I would run to the Hindustan Bakery outlet on Bajirao Road to pick up Pattice (Veg Puff) for the family. (Puff are colloquially called Pattice in Pune) In the 1960’s - Pattice were Sunday Breakfast for many Punekars. Hindustan Bakery Pattice were in high demand - and the Pattice would be sold out if you didn't reach in time - and you would have to go Hindustan Bakery in Shaniwar Peth in case they were still available over there. Hindustan Bakery made Pattice only on Sunday. Later - Hindustan Bakery started making Pattice every day - and the Sunday novelty was lost. Soon - New Poona Bakery, Green Bakery, Santosh Bakery, Sampada Bakery in the City and Naaz Bakery in Camp also started making Pattice. New Poona Bakery and Green Bakery Pattice were triangular shaped whereas Hindustan Bakery Pattice were oblong shaped - as were the Pattice from most Bakeries. Earlier Pattice were a Sunday Morning Delicacy. Nowadays - in Pune - we have many brands of Pattice (Veg Puff) available every day - Joshi Sweets, Tapadia, Regal Bakery, Iyengar Bakery, Inamdar, Javdekar, Sakas, Kraks N Bruns (KB) etc are a few I have eaten and some bakeries like Persian Bakery have delicious Non-Veg (Chicken, Mutton, Egg) Pattice (Puffs) too. One morning - Hindustan Bakery Pattice were sold out - so - I got Pattice of Santosh Bakery and Joshi Sweets - which can be seen in picture below - Santosh Bakery (L) and Joshi Sweets (R) Dear Punekar Foodie - tell us - do you enjoy eating "Pattice"...? And - if so - which is your favourite "Pattice" (or Puff - to use the correct term)
