#Raigad , #Maharashtra : Eight Class 11 and 12 students from #Pune drowned after being swept away by strong sea currents at Diveagar beach on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while on a picnic with their coaching institute. DySP Raju Sonawane said that at around 5:30 p.m., teachers and 42 students from Winners Academy in Alandi, Pune — which provides tuition and coaching for Classes 11 and 12 — had come to Diveagar beach. The students and teachers entered the sea to bathe. Eight students died after they were unable to gauge the depth of the water and were caught in the current. The group, reported as 42 students (25 boys and 17 girls) and six teachers, had travelled from Alandi to the beach under the jurisdiction of Dighi Coastal Police Station. Eight male students who went into the sea were swept into deeper water after misjudging the tide and current. Local residents, a water sports team, police and rescue workers pulled them out; all eight bodies were recovered. They were taken to a primary health centre and later declared dead. An accidental death case has been registered. The deceased have been identified as Tanmay Dattatray Wahile (Vahile), Sumit Bharat Ahire, Pranav Ramdas Bansode, Kaivalya Satish Wasankar, Rajveer Yuvraj Wahile (Vahile), Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar and Kaustubh Sandeep Daund, all from Alandi. Parents of the students rushed to Diveagar, and the remaining students were shifted to a hotel. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described the deaths as extremely heartbreaking and unfortunate. Video Video Video Video Source: https://x.com/sirajnoorani/status/2105799463315141100
