Only in #Pune ! A near stampede to hear a mathematical physicist (and a future @NobelPrize laureate) ... 29 years ago this day. The Founding Director of IUCAA, Dr. Jayant Narlikar had organized this lecture, and 5,000 people showed up at the Balgandharva auditorium (capacity under 1,000). The doors had to be forced shut. The speaker was none other than the 2020 Nobel Laureate, Sir Roger Penrose - quite well known to Punekars back in 1997. indianexpress.com/article/ex… Wonder if @IUCAAScipop haRead story

What's your favorite 'Misal' in #Pune? 🙂

What's your favorite 'Misal' in #Pune ? 🙂 Amit Paranjape (@aparanjape) Recently visited an old favorite, 'Shri Krishna Bhuvan' after a long time... Really great Misal, as always. Very tasty, and not too spicy like many other restaurants. Also, nice 'Gol Bhaji' and 'Sheera'. Shri Krishna Bhuvan is one of the oldest Misal restaurants in Pune (est. 1941) and is located at Tulshi Baug (near Mandai, off Laxmi Road). — http://nitter.meowing.monster/aparanjape/status/1975093718567838062#mRead story

#Pune #Misal Misal with 'Paav' or 'Bread Slice'... or 'Puri' ?! Pre 1940s (before sliced bread) - Puri was often served with Misal. Later many switched to bread slice. The newer ones started with Paav. Even today, the old popular places like Shri Krishna, Bedekar, Vaidya... serve bread slice... Not Paav. Amit Paranjape (@aparanjape) Paav became popular in the 1970s - with its use in Paav Bhaaji and Vadaa Paav. Then it logically was paired with Misal as well. The new Misal restaurants adopted it.Read story
