Tragic stampede at #Chorbagan (Chorebagan / Sarada Park) Sarbojanin #DurgaPuja pandal in North #Kolkata on Maha Saptami evening. At least 17 people have died and 25 are injured (one critical). The incident occurred around 7:40 pm near the exit gate amid heavy rain and a massive crowd. 👉CM Suvendu Adhikari, after visiting the hospital, said police have detained the puja organisers and private security guards. He stated that as per the briefing so far, an announcement by the organisers on loudspeakers was followed by the incident. He also confirmed that Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his programmes in the state tomorrow and will visit the injured and victims. Adhikari appealed to all puja committees: “Work with the police administration, and if there are any loopholes at the entry and exit points, correct them. People’s lives are more important than the puja theme.” 🎗️The state government has announced ₹25 lakh + government job compensation for the families of the deceased, and an STF under a sitting judge will investigate. PM has also announced ₹2 lakh (deceased) and ₹50,000 (injured) from the PMNRF. Heartfelt condolences to the families.
