They build in minutes: a sudden trigger, a crowd held in a narrow approach, an exit that cannot take the load. Better planning, real-time situational awareness and close coordination between organisers, police and administration can reduce the impact of such incidents. Here, technology can really help: an elevated, mobile view of crowd density at approaches and exits, early alerts to control rooms, and a direct PA voice at the point of pressure.
