Heavy rainfall lashed #Chennai yesterday, leaving several roads across the city inundated with floodwater. However, the #TVKVijay government and @chennaicorp officials worked through the night to clear the accumulated rainwater. Receiving nearly 30 cm of rainfall was an unexpected development. The @ChennaiRmc had not issued any specific warning of such intense rainfall, and its forecasts had consistently indicated moderate rain. Even when questions were raised about whether it was a cloudburst, the department clarified that it was not. The torrential downpour continued until around 1 AM, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged. Yet, within the next few hours, government officials deployed motor pumps and managed to clear the accumulated water, handling the sudden spell of heavy rain effectively. The government and officials have now created some confidence that the administration will remain alert and responsive throughout the ongoing rainy season. Time will tell whether this level of preparedness and response can be sustained in the weeks ahead.
